The luxury hotel Palazzo Gattini Matera, can be found in the historic centre of the town of Matera. Having been carefully restored, the Palazzo is now a prestigious hotel. The use of local materials, respect for its original form, and simple and rational restoration work has restored the building to its former splendour. The Palazzo has maintained the historical and architectural character of its interior, as well as the 18th Century facade. The historic house belonged to the aristocratic Gattini family of Matera from its construction up to 1892. Palazzo Gattini is one of the oldest houses of the town's old quarter located in the area around the cathedral, which had been part of the Greco-Roman world, evidence of which can be found in the numerous burial sites. This historic Palazzo maintains traces of its origins in the 15th century.
The building, spread over various levels, has been designed to meet the requirements of the modern hotel. The interiors were redesigned by the architect, Ettore Mocchetti, Director of AD. Modern energy regulations have been observed by the use of LED lights, which ensure soft and diffused light. The lighting itself has become a means of creating an intimate and cosy atmosphere, where you can feel at home in this historic building and every attention is given to the comfort of the guests. The prevailing hues are cream, in the shades of the limestone which dominates Matera and the walls of the historic areas of the town.
Finishings are in the local Mazzaro stone, while the frescoes have all been restored by restoration experts. The furniture has successfully managed to combine contemporary styles with those of the past. Wrought iron lamps have been created by local craftsmen and the ornamental headboards are hand-made; various antiques and furniture found in the Palazzo have been carefully restored. Black, grey, orange and blue contrast together for truly harmonious, sensual environments. Each room is unique. Care and attention to detail transform every tiny aspect into an unforgettable and true gesture of welcome.
